Grocery Product Comparisons:No frozen and vacuum packaged cooked black beans are available in the local stores.Grocery Stores primarily have canned black beans and only one dry black bean product for sale. Water is about 35% of the weight of canned black bean products in this picture.

Some bean cans use a plastic liner.  Be sure to check if you are concerned about combining heated product with plastic.  Frozen cooked black beans stored in plastic is a safe storage procedure.

This can of beans has 10 oz. of non-organic beans and 5.5 oz. water.  The price was $1.27.

Consequently when you pour out the water, the weight of the beans remaining (10 oz.) should be divided into the price ($1.27) to get the cost of an ounce of product.  Multiply this by 16 oz. and you get the unit price of one pound of beans without the water.  The unit price per pound of these non-organic  beans is $2.08/lb..

The unit price of a similar size can of organic black beans is $2.12/lb.  The 5 oz. of water is adding $.74 to the cost per lb. or $2.86/lb.

Of course, the least cost answer to having cooked black beans is to cook dry beans yourself.  For every pound of beans, you add three pounds of water.  The dry beans absorb the water as they cook.   Dry organic black beans sell for around $2.84/lb.  If you cook the beans yourself, the cost per lb. of cooked beans is approximately $.95/lb.
