Our unique Blueberry Rhubarb sauce contains half the sugar of jam in a jar because it is frozen and can be used as a sauce in many ways.  See our recipes below.

Rhubarb is high in Vitamin K—vital for blood clotting.  Rhubarb is the Northern States’  “sour” fruit.  We do not grow lemons here.  Rhubarb adds a bit of zing to sweet blueberries.

Blueberry Mousse


1 pkg. unflavored gelatin                                        

1 cup low fat cottage cheese                                                             

1 cup (9 oz.) Blueberry Rhubarb Sauce                    

½ cup 1 % milk  


1In a small microwave safe bowl, heat gelatin and milk together until gelatin is dissolved.

2Put the milk mixture in a blender.  Add cottage cheese and blend well.    

3. Add fruit sauce and blend again.   

4. Pour into serving bowls and refrigerate until firm….Enjoy!                  

Blueberry Rhubarb Smoothie Recipe


1 cup (9 oz.) blueberry rhubarb sauce

1 cup seltzer  

1 ½ cups low fat milk


Place all the ingredients in a blender and mix well.  

Blueberry Milkshake Use 1 cup sauce to 2 1/2 cups low fat milk.

Blueberry Soda:  Use 1 cup sauce to 2 ½ cups seltzer.



Grocery Store Comparisons: In April 2012 I found fresh blueberries from far away selling for $10.64 and $9.31 per pound.  The best time to buy fresh is in August when local is available for pick-your-own or already picked at a farm stand.  Freezing is simply cleaning and putting the berries to freeze on a tray, then vacuum packaging.  The cost in season is around $5.00 per pound.

I also found thirteen pages of products that use blueberries.  It is a popular fruit.  Blueberry syrup was $19.96/lb. Frozen blueberries were from $4.00 to $8.50 per pound.  Dried blueberries were $26.94/lb.  Jam was anywhere from $3.32/lb. to $7.98/lb.
