Our unique Blueberry Rhubarb sauce contains half the sugar of jam in a jar because it is frozen and can be used as a sauce in many ways.  See our recipes below.

Ingredients: Blueberries, Sugar, Rhubarb, Citrus Pectin

Net Wt.:  9 oz. (1 cup)

Unit Price: $8.00/lb.

Nutritional Quality: Blueberries are antioxidant rich. Visit www.whfoods.com (the World’s Healthiest Foods) website to learn more about blueberries. Rhubarb is high in Vitamin K—vital for blood clotting.  Rhubarb is the Northern States’  “sour” fruit.  We do not grow lemons here.  Rhubarb adds a bit of zing to sweet blueberries.

Creative Cooking Ideas: Use the sauce cold or at room temperature as you would jam in a jar.  You can use the sauce as a topping for toast, muffins, cheesecake, pancakes, biscuits, French toast or waffles.  Because it has less sugar than jam, it works well warmed to top cottage cheese, yogurt or ice cream.  In the recipes section below, you can find the sauce used for fruit sodas, smoothies and milk shakes and more.  Insert picture from power point of sauce on cottage cheese.

Grocery Store Comparisons: In April 2012 I found fresh blueberries from far away selling for $10.64 and $9.31 per pound.  The best time to buy fresh is in August when local is available for pick-your-own or already picked at a farm stand.  Freezing is simply cleaning and putting the berries to freeze on a tray, then vacuum packaging.  The cost in season is around $5.00 per pound.

I also found thirteen pages of products that use blueberries.  It is a popular fruit.  Blueberry syrup was $19.96/lb. Frozen blueberries were from $4.00 to $8.50 per pound.  Dried blueberries were $26.94/lb.  Jam was anywhere from $3.32/lb. to $7.98/lb.

Hometown Foods frozen Blueberry Rhubarb Fruit Sauce ($8.00/lb.) is a unique local product that offers many new uses for fruit desserts and drinks that are high in fruit flavor while lower in sugar.

Share Your Recipes:  Please share your fruit sauce cooking uses so we can put them on the website.  My neighbor, Carl,  made a marinade from Blueberry Rhubarb Sauce for his barbecued moose.  Imagine that!
